Educational efforts
We believe in educating people about God and the Bible. We do not believe you can have a complete walk with God without obtaining more and more Biblical knowledge as you go along that walk. We also believe it is a lifelong task that all Christians should want to do. In order to provide opportunities for our members and anyone interested in attending, we sponsor or provide various educational activities through the year.
Sunday School
Obviously, our walk with God should include Sunday School. There are two reasons we should attend. First, it will greatly help us have a better understanding of God and the Bible. Sunday School is a structured way for all of us to improve our knowledge about God and the Bible. Every Sunday, in our class you will hear someone say, "Wow, I did not know that," or "That is certainly a new way to look at..."
The second reason is a selfish one on our part. Our learning and our fellowship is significantly improved by having other people in the class to discuss ideas and concepts about God or the Bible. EVERY person, regardless of knowledge level, adds to the collective experience we all get from Sunday School. In fact, we learn the most when people ask questions about the scripture or the lesson as they seek to understand it. So, the less you know about the Bible, then the more questions you will have and, therefore, the more we will all learn!
Every Sunday at 8:40 am we begin our Sunday School class. We generally start arriving early (8:30 am) and have donuts and coffee as we mingle and enjoy fellowship with one another. Our lesson then starts promptly at 8:40 am and concludes at 9:20 am so we have ample time to attend the worship service at 9:30 am. We meet in the Fellowship Hall Annex which connects to our Sanctuary.
We have several great Sunday School teachers as well as two back-up teachers. We are using the Cokesbury Adult Bible Series as our program guide. A student booklet containing the lessons is provided for us to use, make notes in, and keep as desired. Give us a try and you are guaranteed to enjoy the lessons and discussion! We promise! You DO NOT need a Biblical background to participate and you do not have to be a member of our church. You just need a desire to learn. The whole purpose of Sunday School is to hear the lesson, learn about God and the Bible, discuss it as we go, ask questions, and pose alternatives to the discussion if desired. We have all ranges of knowledge from little to a lot! Join us.
Bible Study
We periodically conduct Bible studies. Normally they are held in the Fellowship Hall Annex and the topics vary considerably. Since we are good Methodists, we often accompany our Bible studies with either a meal or snacks. Your level of Bible knowledge is NOT important. We have people attending who have almost no Biblical expertise to those with a lot of experience. Everyone is welcome and everyone can learn something from these studies.
