Nominations & Lay Leadership Committee
Purpose: Identifies, develops, deploys, evaluates, and monitors the development of church spiritual lay leadership. Recommends people to the Charge Conference to serve as officers, leaders, committee members, and committee chairs.
The Pastor leads this committee, but Vice Chair needs to be fully capable of leading the committee when the Pastor is not available.
In coordination with the Church Council, establishes criteria for leadership positions.
Develop and conduct programs to improve the spiritual quality of congregation in general and the lay leadership in particular. This includes such activities as Bible studies, special learning opportunities, etc.
Due to lack of a Sunday School department, Vice-Chair serves as Sunday School Superintendent. This includes oversight of such activities as Sunday School teachers, literature, adult, youth, and children Sunday Schools, Vacation Bible School, Class parties, Methodist Youth Fellowship, etc. The Vice Chair ensures those activities function as appropriate but is not responsible for doing all the work. Get volunteers as needed.
Help members of the church identify their calls from God, their leadership gifts, and places for Christian service.
Leads the congregation to understand that God gives gifts, skills, and experiences to every individual within the body of Christ for ministry
Becomes familiar with the responsibilities for each leadership position and matches potential leaders with particular opportunities for spiritual leadership.
Plan for orderly rotation of members on committees based on Church Council policy and the UMC Discipline
Identifies and invites people to take positions of spiritual leadership, receives their responses, and provides a complete list of committees and members to the Church Conference for approval.
Contact all nominees BEFORE submitting their names to the council.
Ensure all who attend church on a regular basis are included in the committee assignments.
Meetings will be open to all, except when discussing church member appointments to committees, in which case the meeting will be closed to allow for an open and frank discussion by committee members.
